While officers are keeping us safe during the busy holiday season, many are paying the ultimate sacrifice.

The deadliest days for police officers are Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Years Day.

That's according to the Officer Down Memorial Page.

So far this year, 121 officers have been killed in the line of duty, 45 of those by gunfire.

The average age of those officers is 41 and three of them were from West Virginia.

18 police canines have also been killed this year in the line of duty.

Parkersburg Police Sgt Greg Collins asks, " please keep all of the officers in the Mid Ohio Valley in your thoughts and prayers as they continue to work throughout the holidays so others may safely enjoy them. "
