In Marietta, after the parades, the real meaning behind 4th of July.

Reading through the document behind our freedom.

Around 30 people showed up to hear the American Legion Post 64 read through the Declaration of Independence, Amendments 11 through 26, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights Friday afternoon.

Organizers say most people have never even heard the Declaration of Independence actually read out loud.

And it's important to know the real meaning of the Fourth of July.

"Well it's Independence Day and independence is based upon those documents. And a lot of people I think have forgotten that over the years, that you know, it's not just a holiday to barbecue outside and be with your family - I think that's important - but it's just like Christmas. You know, sometimes we forget the true meaning of these holidays and it's important to just remind everybody that," says Randy Kintz, a veteran.

Everyone got to take home their own copy.

This is the second year the Legion has read out loud the documents.

They hope to continue every year.
