An extra $2,000 is in the hands of the people running the Family Crisis Intervention Center of Wood County.

The donation comes from Mike Day, General Manager of the Parkersburg Comfort Inn, who presented a check to center employees Tuesday.

The center says that money, and other donations, are needed...because recent state and federal budget cuts have tightened the intervention center's budget.

"We have several children in the shelter...right now, as a matter of fact," says Human Resources Manager Sharon Lynch, "and we like to do extra things for them and for our clients, to help them. When they go back to lead a normal life, they have been given some advantages, such as being able to find a job, adequate housing and so forth."

The center is known for the support and counseling it provides victims of domestic violence.
