They may have the same last name but two Marietta city employees had no idea they are actually related until Thursday.
Marietta Police Sgt. Rodney Hupp and Safety Service Director Jonathan Hupp visited the grave site Thursday of their fifth great grandfather, Philip Hupp, who served as a Continental Marine in the Revolutionary War.
Jonathan Hupp and his father, Gerry Hupp were also in the Marines and had no idea of any connection this far back in their family history.
The grave site is at Hesson Cemetery in Noble County.
President of the Marietta Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, Jean Yost, researched everything, finding that Philip Hupp served as a Continental Marine on a secret mission on the Ohio River in 1778.
