A patriotic local movement this Independence Day.
Donning the stars and stripes, our community continues a growing tradition.
Berkshire-Hathaway agents and volunteers from the Vienna Lions Club and Home Depot spent the past few days laying 3,500 American flags across the region.
The initiative started 20 years ago by Terry Connolly, a Vietnam war veteran.
For each flag placed this holiday organizers will make a donation to the Veterans Museum on Seventh Street.
"We love our country and here we are to say we love our veterans," says Marian Duvall, a realtor with Berkshire Hathaway. "We're very grateful for everybody who has played a part in making America great."
"We have the opportunity to make such a positive statement by putting the flag out everywhere," says Bob Fish, with Sons of the American Revolution. "It really exemplifies the things that make us all proud to be Americans."
Organizers hope to double the number next year.
Their goal is to place a flag in every yard in the Mid-Ohio Valley.
They say that will take more money and manpower.
