Flu Season

It's hard to believe summer's over and we're already talking about the flu – the new season starts in October.

The Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department believes it's never too early to get your flu vaccine.

Head over as soon as pharmacies and global health departments have a supply.

“Everybody six months old and older is recommended to get the flu vaccine just because it's the single most important thing that you can do to prevent flu,” says Jessica Woods, regional epidemiologist. “But there are other ways to prevent flu if you do not want to get the flu vaccine.”

Woods says it's mostly just common sense.

“If you are sick, don't go out. If you know someone who's sick, don't spend time around them,” she says. “Wash your hands, wash your hands, wash your hands and if there's no soap and water, use alcohol-based hand sanitizer.”
