COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius says growing up with her father, former Ohio governor John J. Gilligan, was an adventure.

Sebelius joked Thursday she thought most families spent the fall knocking on doors and campaigning, adding that no one told them politics was voluntary.

Lawmakers, governors and state officials are celebrating the life of the 92-year-old political leader and decorated World War II veteran.

Sebelius' three siblings and U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown were among the speakers at Thursday's memorial service at the Ohio Statehouse. The event follows a mass and visitation Wednesday in Cincinnati.

Gilligan died at home on Aug. 26.

The Democrat was Ohio governor from 1971 to 1975. He also served in the U.S. House, on Cincinnati city council, and the Cincinnati School Board.
