Fouth of July Festivities: Traveling or Staying Local

The upcoming holiday kicks of the summer travel season.

AAA travel projects around 40.8 million people will be traveling 50 miles or more this holiday weekend.

"Oh yeah, anytime during the fourth of July season this place is a busy busy place, most of them traveling headed south, visiting relatives," Williamstown Go-Mart Employee.

At the Williamstown travel stop off Route 77, some families were traveling across a minimum of three states.

"We are enjoying the beautiful trip up West Virginia and the mountains, and not having any road construction, its been wonderful, and we are really looking forward to just seeing a little bit of Ohio and hopefully to see one of the great lakes for the first time," said Traveling Virginia Resident.

However when some are traveling, others are excited about what is going on here at home.

The Marietta parade starts at 10am at 4th and Bulter St. ending at the Armory.

The Washington County fairground festivities start at 2 pm it is $6 to get in, the fireworks start at 10PM

Richard Henthorn director for the Washington County Fair grounds committee says this is a time to remember and celebrate.

"For tomorrow is the fourth of July, fourth of July we celebrate our independence and to me that's great, our forefathers fought for us, and I'm a veteran so its a special time," said Richard Henthorn, Washington County Fair Grounds Committee Director.

At the fair grounds there will be inflatables for the kids, JD Williamson a cartoon illustrator, car show, karaoke and a demolition derby.

The Parkersburg Carnival at City Park is on tonight and all weekend 5-11PM however, tomorrow it is open 11AM till midnight for the fourth.

Pancake breakfast tomorrow in Williamstown is from 7-11am at the park.
