He was all set to go to Denver, Colorado for 10 months to help with disaster relief, until AmeriCorps told him otherwise because of the government shutdown.
Noble Benson, of Cairo, quit his job to go west and help others in need.
But AmeriCorps said if the government shutdown isn't settled within a week, his trip is postponed until further notice.
This leaves him in limbo for now.
"Not good, I really wanted to go," Benson says. (I'm) pretty disappointed. "I mean, I was really looking forward to it; I thought it was gonna be a lot of fun."
Benson says he hopes the government is back on its feet very soon so he can head out. He adds that these are his plans for the better part of the year because he likes helping people.
