Having A Safe Independence Day; Firework Safety and Laws

What's July fourth without some fireworks to celebrate the day but local fire officials are making sure everyone has a safe independence day.

The consumer product safety commission says last year four people were killed using fireworks, with more than nine thousand injured.

Fire experts say even something as simple as sparklers can become hotter than one-thousand degrees.

They say sparklers have been known to cause burns and even catch clothing on fire if not careful.

"Make sure the fireworks you're using are legal for the state. All fireworks should be used under the supervision of an adults. Never throw fireworks in the direction of any other person. Keep control of them if you are using them," explains Marietta Fire Department's Captain Jack Hansis.
