Health Official Says Flu Cases In W.Va. Declining

FAIRMONT, W.Va. (AP) - A state health official says flu season appears to have peaked in West Virginia.

State Bureau for Public Health influenza coordinator Shannon McBee says every region in the state has reported fewer flu cases.

McBee tells The Times-West Virginian that the state has dropped below the baseline for influenza after being above it for eight consecutive weeks.

The baseline is 2.2 percent of patients seeking treatment for ailments that have or exhibit influenza-like symptoms.

But McBee says the flu is still out there, along with other viral illnesses. Residents are advised to continue preventive measures such as washing hands.
