After a lightning strike in 2012 the historic Unitarian Church in downtown Marietta finally gets a new spire.

Wednesday morning crews shut down a lane of Putnam and Third Streets to hoist up a new spire for the Unitarian Univeralist Church steeple.

Joe Baker, the co-chair of buildings and grounds at the church, says the lightning strike split the spire and damaged the bricks below.

Baker says they worked with the insurance company and Angelina Stone and Marble to get it done.

"It's really wonderful that we have been able to get it accomplished," Baker says. "This church was built in 1855 and this is one of the only, really significant areas of damage that we have had to the church."

Baker says the church is extremely grateful to have it back in one piece.
