Homeowner Shoots at Robbers

Parkersburg Police tell us the homeowner fired a shot at the man. But there's much more to this story, and more than one robber.

Bobby Oliver told police a white male broke into his home through a side door and went up to the third floor.

On his way back down, Oliver was waiting. He fired one shot at the burglar with his pistol, but missed.

As the suspect ran away Oliver saw another man on his back porch.
Both ran through the back yard.

There are no leads right now, but police are hoping the community will help.

"I think if neighbors take care of neighbors is the biggest thing. A lot of times in neighborhoods we find 'I don't want to get in somebody elses business' or 'I don't want to be involved in this' and that's absolutely the wrong approach most of the time," says Sergeant Greg Collins of the Parkersburg Police Department. "If you can be a good observer, a good witness, and be cooperative with your police department it actually will make the entire neighborhood a much better place for everybody."

The first suspect is described as a white male, about 5'10" weighing 150 lbs. He was wearing a heavy green jacket, dark pants, and had a scruffy beard.

Oliver says the second suspect is a white male wearing a black hoodie, dark pants, and dark shoes.

If you have any information call the Parkersburg Police Department at 304-424-8444.

I would like to thank Mr.Bobby Oliver for taking my concealed carry class this sunday. He did very well in the class and will have his permit in just a few days. In addition to the concealed carry laws, we spent a good bit of time on the castle doctrine, how it varys in other states, and i believe he enjoyed the 2 hours of shooting most of all. Mr. Oliver and the other 14 students are talking the steps i feel everyone in this area should be doing. Get the training and license to protect yourself. If your looking to get your carry concealed permit. vist my web site at Carryconcealedclass.com or call 304-375-7842

Go on the internet and read the WV and Ohio Castle Law information. It's different in both states. I took a conceal carry class and also purchased State Trooper quality pepper spray - its air shot so blowback is not as apt to happen and it has a dye that will last for a month. If someone is hungry, knock on my door. Anything else will be treated as a threat and under the Castle Law I have the right to protect.

I've been hearing from people all over town that there is a gang here that has worked its way down from Cleveland area and has been placing their gang name on signs, posts, polls and so I started looking around. Their name is on public property all over the place! Why haven't the police informed the public about this, so we can look out for certain things going on. Is this the reason for the increased crime? Do they have something to do with this? Kids at school talk about it all the time! We the citizens deserve to know, if this is the case! Wouldn't it help law enforcement to let us know? A lot of things going on in this town don't make sense, right?

At aprroximately 4:20 pm 3 guys crammed in the front of a small dark green pick-up cut in front of me in traffic to get into the adult book store parking lot on 7th street. It struck me odd how packed into the truck they seemed and that they were so determined to get across traffic to go there in the afternoon.

Anonymous writes " I think there are too many guns in this country. We have 300 million people and nearly as many guns! That's crazy." and yet goes on to say that he/she might consider getting one... What a double standard! I am not insecure because I own several guns, furthermore, my ownership is not a good indicator of "a sign of the times ". I enjoy them, collect them, and compete with them. I am well trained and would not hesitate to protect myself and/or my family, be it with a gun or an aluminum ball bat; the perp won't have his choice which. I wouldn't mind the criminal element believing that there were three times the number of guns in this country as there are people. Don't infringe your thoughts on my 2nd amendment rights! Who do you think would decide that times are "crazy" enough to justify a 1 to 1 ratio of guns to population? Break into my house, and you'll be doing youurself a favor to call your own ambulance ahead of time and bringing your own body bag might lessen my carpet stains.

I was a state trooper for 27 years. Before I retired in 1973 I had to shoot and kill people in the line of duty more than once. It's not a pretty sight. Take a concealed carry class.

Maybe the poor man was hungry. He may have just been looking for something to eat.

Is it not against the law to shoot at someone when they are retreating? The threat was leaving, Mr. Oliver was no longer in danger. Lets see how the Prosecuting Attorney handles this one! The intruders will never be sought. This has happened in the past, the intruders are walking free despite warrants being filed by the victim of the same situation. Let the W.C.S.D. investigate and I guarantee Mr.Oliver will be charged. To all readers remember this is election year the PROSECUTING ATTORNEY, SHERIFF, MAYOR and the POLICE CHIEF will protect their positions, Not The Citizens. PLEASE VOTE INDEPENDENT.I support Mr. Olive 110% not the way laws are interpreted in wood county WV. I guarantee this case will last past election time in November. So it will not infringe on election results.Again Please vote for your freedom VOTE INDEPENDENT IN NOV. Thank you Coal miner.

The posters on this blog have the basic understanding. Thank you for caring like you do and hopefully these lawbreakers will be caught or shot. Some of these other blogs are so politically slanted it is ridiculous. The justice system does no justice against these perpetrators. I think it may be time to back to an eye for an eye.

I am a gun owner myself, and i have to say that I would'nt want to shoot anybody. But if somebody broke in my home, they are not coming in to see if it is your birthday, they are ther to steal or do harm, period! Heaven knows how this would've went if an elderly lady would've been home alone. But I have to say of someone broke i.to my home, I would have no qualms about putting him down.
