The Wood County community is still in shock following the sudden death of a beloved 7th grader. Officials say Marissa Miller died Thursday night after she collapsed during soccer practice.

The Jackson Middle School student was an athlete through and through---excelling on both the soccer field and basketball court.

Friends say Marissa was full of life and loved sports more than anything.
Those close to her say she was a hard worker on the field and in school, inspiring her friends to be the best they can be.

"We were really close and we always did stuff together. She liked to laugh and goof off and she liked to play sports all the time. That's what she loved to do. She wants us to be the best that we can be and work hard and she used to always say be kind, work hard, have fun. So she always wanted us, once you master something continue to work on it to perfect it and once you perfected it she knew you could never do any better. And she always worked hard at something. And I know that she's in a better place now and she's happy, and we're the ones who are suffering," says friend Sarah McDonnell.

Funeral services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at the Lambert Tatman Funeral Home on Grand Central Avenue. Visitation is 2-5 p.m. Sunday afternoon at the funeral home.

A memorial fund has been set up in Marissa's name. You can send donations to:

Grief counselors were at Jackson Middle School Friday, after the sudden, tragic death of a student Thursday night.

We have confirmed the student's name as Marissa Miller, a seventh- grader at Jackson Middle School.

We were unable to get on-camera interviews Friday, but Jackson Middle School officials told us Miller collapsed while playing soccer Thursday evening.

She died a short time later.

Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home's obituary calls Miller an "amazing student and athlete" who won many awards, and who played basketball as well as soccer.

Funeral services are set for Monday at 10 A.M., at Lambert-Tatman Funeral home in Vienna, with visitation set for 2-5:00 P.M. Sunday afternoon.
