The Jan Dils Golden Apple winner for the month of January is dedicated to her school -- and in return, her school and family went all out to make this retiring teacher know she's loved.
Mrs. Diane McMichael is a 30 year veteran and all of that time has been spent at Jefferson Elementary.
She's a title one reading teacher. You can see her students love her.
Everyone was excited to celebrate with Mrs. McMichael. Her sisters, her husband and her daughter showed up for her big surprise.
Mrs. McMichael says she loves to teach and learn.
She tells us she hopes her students walk away from her classroom feeling the same way.
The school had a party for Mrs. McMichael after our awards ceremony, complete with balloons and a cake.
