Keeping Kids Safe Around Pools

Summertime means the pools are open.

But they are also dangerous, especially for little kids.

Do you have a fence?

Within the City of Marietta, the Washington County Building Department says a home pool fence must be no less than four feet high.

The Marietta Fire Department reminds people to always be aware around the pool, especially with young children.

Never take your eyes off the water.

"Distractions, you have to make sure whether you are outside reading a book, talking on the phone, texting, playing on the computer, you need to make sure to have your undivided attention on any small children that are around the pool because in a very few matter of minutes a child can drown and they can drown silently," says Marietta Fire Chief C.W. Durham.

Chief Durham asks everyone, do you have an alarm for the house, if a child were to slip out the back door?

Everyone should take swimming lessons and have an adult certified in CPR.
