The Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission (ORSANCO) needs your help on keeping the riverbanks free of trash and debris.
The organization is hold its annual River Sweep Saturday June 15th along the shore line of the Ohio River from six different states.
This is the largest environmental event where volunteers will help clear trash and debris along the riverbank.
Last year, nearly 20,000 volunteers participated and raised over $140,000.
ORSANCO is hoping to raise over $155,000 this year.
"Well, the water quality in the Ohio is so much better than it used to be and people don't realize that this is a recreational water land, it's a major transportation artery. Millions of people get their drinking water from the Ohio and we really need to respect this river," says River Sweep Project Director, Jeanne Ison.
Ohio, Kentucky and West Virginia are among the states participating in this year's River Sweep.
The money will be used for shipping out t-shirts to volunteers, supplies for the event and their annual poster contest.
