Helping keep our local volunteer fire departments running.
A big day for the Village of Lowell.
The state fire marshal's office was in Lowell Friday morning presenting the Lowell-Adams Volunteer Fire Department with an equipment grant for $10,000.
Lowell-Adams Chief Joshua Harris says they will use the money for communications, new portable radios and a washing machine for the gear.
"That washer will turn a different speed, you can't just take the gear down to the laundry mat," he says. "We just want to make sure everybody knows that we are going to come out and do the best we can and be safe."
The state fire marshal's office says it's because of the hard work of local departments like this, Ohio has had its lowest fire fatality rate for 27 years.
Lowell was one of 119 volunteer departments across the state that received this grant out of over 400 applicants.
