Another bitter cold night has area social service agencies preparing to shelter the local homeless.
Officials of the Latrobe Street Mission say they brought in 75 men, women, and children Thursday night and they expect another busy night Friday.
Much like the Parkersburg Salvation Army, the Mission provides the homeless with a place to sleep, a bite to eat and warm clothing.
Officials say helping people in need through the cold winter months is a community effort
"All the different social service agencies in the area are partners rather than competitors," says Jason Batten, Director of Operations at the Mission. "We're all serving the same population. We all have basically the same goals of providing help to people that need it."
Batten says the Mission is prepared to shelter up to 100 people Friday night.
He also says the building is expanding to better serve a growing local homeless population.
