Local Group Helps The Homeless During The Holiday Season

With the cold winter coming our way, people in Harrisville are donating items for the Holiday Hope Drive in an effort to help the homeless.

The Hawkeye Research team is collecting and donating items like pillows, bedding and clothing to the Parkersburg Salvation Army.

They've raised nearly $2,000 in the past five days.

The group wanted to see what's it like being homeless by sleeping outside from 8pm to 8am Thanksgiving Day.

They say it helps them get a better understanding for what people need to survive.

"It's easy to get wrapped up in our own lives. Kind of ignore the fact that there is such a need, even our local area. There are a lot of people that are going through rough times right now that are in true need," says Hawkeye Research Vice President, Anthony Farr.

This event is to raise awareness for and about the Salvation Army Shelter in Parkersburg.
