In Washington County, some college students took time out Saturday morning to give back to their community.

Marietta College and Washington State Community College students were all part of "Make a Difference Day".

Volunteers were at various locations throughout Marietta cleaning garden beds, dumping mulch, and planting flowers.

Participants say "Make a Difference day" is a great way to get the community involved to preserve the beauty of our region.

"Really it gets engaged in the community and it helps build community and partnership with everyone and it's just a good feeling to have everyone working together," says Marietta College Freshman, Cierra Bloom.

"Make a Difference Day is about inspiring other people by today just planting a single flower, we might inspire a young child to go after their dreams by just seeing that flower or take action themselves," added Marietta College Freshman Emily Drabeck.

The Marietta Tree Commission, Friends of the Lower Muskingum River, and the Boys and Girls Club of Washington County all taking part in this year's event as well.
