Instead of running, people in Marietta went walking for a very good cause this morning.
The Diabetes Health Initiative at the Marietta Memorial Health System, put on the first ever Making Strides for Diabetes Walk.
Over 200 people came out to support patients with diabetes from Wood and Washington Counties by walking several laps around the track at Don Drumm Stadium.
The Memorial Health System is raising money to continue educating patients on how to eat right and exercise.
"I always had thought that when the diabetics well educated on how to leave, do lifestyle modifications in terms of exercising more, eating the right kind of foods in combination with medication, they can improve their well being," says Diabetes Health Initiative Endocrinologist, Dr. Milagros Lopez-Velez.
Members of the Diabetes Health Initiative say they hope to make the walk an annual event.
