UPDATE 11/20/2013 2:35 PM
A man is sentenced to three years for allowing a toddler to drown in the bath tub.
Joshua Sciance pleaded guilty in September to endangering children.
In March in Beverly Sciance told police he was giving 2-year-old Connar Hilton a bath when he left the room.
When he came back Connar had drowned.
He's not related to the child.
Sciance receives the maximum sentence of three years in prison with mandatory five years post release control.
He could face up to three years in prison and $10,000 in fines.
Friday Joshua Sciance pleaded guilty to a third-degree felony count of endangering children.
Washington County Prosecuting Attorney Jim Schneider says this past March, Sciance was babysitting his girlfriend's two children.
He left them in the bathtub for about twenty minutes while he went to cook dinner.
When Sciance came back, the two year old slipped under the water and may have been submerged the entire time.
"He had suffered a lot of brain damage due to him being without oxygen for about 20 minutes was their estimate given the damage to the brain that they had observed," Schneider says.
Schneider says the child was able to be resuscitated, but only by a machine, and was kept alive until the following day.
Sciance's sentencing is set for November 19 at 8:00 a.m.
