FAIRPLAIN, W.Va. (AP) - A moonshine distillery under construction in Fairplain could begin production by the end of the year.
Appalachian Mountain Distillery owner Dwayne Freeman says the distillery will use a family recipe. He hopes to employ five to six people during the first year of operation.
The moonshine will be distributed across West Virginia and in other states.
Freeman says the company also plans to establish a retail operation and tours at the distillery site, which is near Interstate 77.
The company originally had planned to open the distillery in Ravenswood. That plan was dropped following opposition by some Ravenswood residents.
Freeman says the company has received a lot of support in Fairplain.
