He helped save a Marietta woman from a murderer, and he's being honored for his heroic actions.

"He was gonna murder that girl, and I wasn't gonna let him do it," says Michael Lisk.

He didn't have time to think. "This all happened very quick. In maybe two minutes time."

Police say he saved a Marietta woman who was literally running for her life. In January, Holly Fickiesen's ex boyfriend, Steven Leonhart was on a rampage. He just killed Holly's then boyfriend, Willard Baker and he was coming after her.

"Holly came over and was banging on the door. I let her in the house and as soon as I did, Mr. Leonhart came in there and he had a shot gun in his hands. The only thing I knew how to do was get him out of the house, and that's what I did," Lisk remembers.

Now, Lisk is being honored for saving both Holly's life and his.

"We were pleased to award Mr. Lisk with the Citizens Award of Valor. And you certainly earned that," says Washington County Sheriff Larry Mincks.

His family and friends say they're not surprised he would act so heroically.

His wife, Karen Lisk says, "we've been married almost 30 years and he would've done it 30 years ago and he'll do it 30 years from now."

Bakers sister, Christy Drake was there during the presentation. She says she wishes the circumstances would have been different, but she's proud of Lisk. "It couldn't have happened to a better guy to receive it."

Lisk didn't get away unharmed that night.
"I had a shattered hip and a busted up hand. It was tough."

But he says it was worth it, even though he doesn't call himself a hero.
"Willie was the hero. He died protecting his friend."

Lisk spent months in physical therapy for his broken hip. He says he hasn't heard from Holly since that night.

Leonhart pled guilty to murder. He'll spend life in prison with the chance of parole after 52 years.
