A multi-agency enforcement blitz over the weekend aimed to take the criminal element off the roads – and it did just that.
The combined effort included the Ohio State Highway Patrol in Marietta, Washington County Sheriff's Office, Belpre and Marietta Police departments.
With the county fair and Sternwheel Festival coming up, Lieutenant Carlos Smith with the Marietta Post says the blitz was a great opportunity to make local roads safer for everyone.
“Anytime we can work with other agencies and provide a collaborative effort we feel like that's very important for the community and anytime we're out there with our lights on and our cars pulled over we feel like we're making a difference,” Smith says.
The weekend blitz netted the arrest of a drug trafficker, three-pound marijuana seizure, some heroin and the recovery of a stolen vehicle.
Smith says they typically see traffic patterns; the beginning of summer, end of summer or start of the school year and focus on those times of year to make a direct impact on the driving public.
