Larry Ice is a longtime employee of Ohio Valley University. He also deals, day to day, with the effects of Parkinson's Disease. His condition may not be as noticeable as what others deal with. but he is dealing with it...on a daily basis.

"It's very important we take our pills on time, so we need to communicate that to medical personnel, that, if not given on time, it just gives more problems," he says. "And the personality seems to change when it doesn't, but the person's muscles change."

Awareness, and support, for Parkinson's patients was the reason behind Saturday's pancake breakfast at the university. It's a tradition begun by a student at the University of Virginia a decade ago, and has gone coast to coast.

Some of those enjoying pancakes and sausages Saturday were repeat customers.

"He's been dealing with that for a few years," says Sean Cronin, who knows both Ice and his family, "and, even through that, he's done a lot of work and a lot of awareness, too. He's a very meaningful guy to a lot of people."

OVU students take part in both the cooking and the serving. While it's a university event, it's also a way of giving back to one of their own.

Ice is part of a support group for Parkinsons, which meets on a regular basis.

Its next meeting is next Saturday afternoon, March ninth, beginning at 1:30, at the Vienna Public Library.
