BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. (AP) - A man is in critical condition after he was shot by a Bridgeport police officer at an Interstate 79 rest area.
City officials say in a news release that the shooting occurred after the officer responded to a disturbance call at 3:23 a.m. Thursday.
The officer found a man armed with a handgun and a woman inside a vehicle. The officer was able to get the woman out of the vehicle and repeatedly ordered the man to drop the gun.
City officials say the man refused and raised the gun toward the officer in a threatening manner. The officer then shot the man in the upper torso.
The man was taken to Ruby Memorial Hospital. His name hasn't been released.
