DELAWARE, Ohio (AP) - An Ohio doctor charged with raping and killing a pregnant woman who responded to an online job ad has been released from jail after posting a $1 million bond.

Dr. Ali Salim also had to surrender his passport upon his release Monday and will be on house arrest and must wear a GPS monitoring device until his trial scheduled for early May.

Prosecutors had asked for a $5 million bond, saying Salim, from Pakistan, was a flight risk.

The 44-year-old Salim of New Albany in central Ohio has pleaded not guilty to charges he killed Deanna Ballman and her unborn child last summer with a fatal dose of heroin after she responded to a housekeeper ad.

Ballman was nine months pregnant when she was killed.

DELAWARE, Ohio (AP) - An Ohio prosecutor says she'll ask for a high bond when a doctor charged with rape and two counts of murder in the death of a pregnant woman appears in court.

Delaware County Prosecutor Carol O'Brien says the investigation into Dr. Ali Salim was not easy and involved a lot of evidence.

O'Brien says she'll ask for a "significant cash bond" when Salim makes his initial appearance Thursday in Delaware County court.

The New Albany man was indicted by a Delaware County grand jury on nine felony counts in last summer's deaths of 23-year-old Deanna Ballman of Pataskala and her unborn child.

Salim's attorney, Sam Shamansky, says his client will plead not guilty to the charges.
