Ohio's Democratic candidate for state treasurer makes her very first visit to Marietta.
State Representative Connie Pillich made a campaign stop at Muskingum Park Tuesday afternoon.
The Air Force veteran is challenging Republican incumbent Josh Mandel.
Pillich met with Mayor Joe Matthews, Congressional candidate Jennifer Garrison and state Senator Lou Gentile.
She then spoke to voters.
Pillich says as state treasurer she'll be an "independent watchdog" of taxpayer dollars.
"There's not a Republican way or a Democrat way of doing things. There's just the right way. And that's the approach I've taken in public service with everything I've done," she says. "Whether it's representing my clients as a lawyer, representing my constituents as a state legislator, and hopefully in the future, representing the people of Ohio as their safeguard of their money."
This is Pillich's first statewide race as a politician.
She's up three points on treasurer Mandel in the latest independent poll.
The treasurer oversees $200 billion in state assets.
