One local foundation is celebrating half a century of service to our region.
Members of the Parkersburg Area Community Foundation gathered for their annual meeting Friday afternoon.
The Parkersburg Country Club hosted the group and its supporters.
Last year, the foundation awarded over $1.6 million in grants and scholarships to 113 non-profit organizations.
This year, they expect the same success.
"Our role in the community is to encourage people to do something in a permanent way for the causes that matter most to them," says Judy Sjostedt, Executive Director of the Foundation. "For some people that cause might be helping the humane society. For some people it might be helping one of our non-profit organizations in town."
Growing immensely the past 50 years, the Foundation today manages more than 430 charitable funds, totaling nearly $40 million in assets.
