A local man dies after being stabbed Sunday in Parkersburg.

Parkersburg police say Anthony Ray Armstrong, William Strohman and Kimberly Dawn Martin drove to a Hemlock Ave. apartment around 3 a.m.

The group got into a confrontation with Strohman's ex-girlfriend and a man who lives in the apartment.

Armstrong then hit both of them, knocking the man to the ground. The man retaliated by grabbing a knife and stabbing Armstrong. He later died at Camden Clark Medical Center.

"It looks like a pretty decent self defense case at this point. The individual that's involved is not a violent person. I think he was just put into an unfortunate situation," said Chief Joe Martin.

Chief Martin says detectives will determine if any criminal charges will be filed. The case will go to the Wood County Prosecutor's Office and a grand jury.

Armstrong was recently released from the Parkersburg Correctional Center.
