Peek-A-Boo and Lucky, Friends At First Sight

To many, Easter is a symbol of new life. That's exactly what one very 'Lucky' cat is getting this Easter- a new life with a new friend.

Peek-A-Boo is the Maltese greeter at Pat's Upholstery. Pat's co-owner, Luna Walker, says Peek has been at her side since the day she was brought home from the pet store.

"We actually brought her home Christmas Eve from the pet store and from that day forward she's not left my side," Walker explains.

Now, Peek has a new friend who's side she never leaves.

"The new member of Pat's Upholstery is a little kitten named Lucky, who lost her siblings and then her mom tried to kill her," Walker says. "So, she had a puncture wound in the top of her head and became a special needs kitty. Peek-A-Boo would not leave her alone. When I let them meet she took hold of her, like any momma would, and took Lucky to her place, which is her cage, and decided she was keeping her."

Peek-A-Boo not only accepted Lucky she's treating the cat just like she would a puppy. Peek-A-Boo is even nursing! But, be careful, just like any momma, Peek-A-Boo is also very protective of her baby.

"Normally, Peek-A-Boo's job here is to be our greeter. If someone comes in Peek-A-Boo's always happy and she wants to greet everyone," Walker says. "Until we brought her to work with the kitten. Now, if someone walks in the front door, or even walks past the front door of Pat's Upholstery, she is barking and jumping at the door and ready to bite someones leg off. So, we have to be really careful now."

A friendship as close as Peek-A-Boo and Lucky's is uncommon. Just as uncommon: having a cat who will (one day) love to play in fabrics and tassels in a store that deals in fabrics and tassels.

"Peek-A-Boo being a Maltese, she doesn't shed, she's hypoallergenic. People can't usually be allergic to her as long as she's bathed and groomed regularly," Walker explains. "A kitten on the other hand will be a normal cat, that will shed, and have claws, which is not necessarily a good thing around furniture and fabric. So, she may have to stay home. I don't know yet. We're going to have to work that out along the way."

One thing is for sure- Lucky, the cat who certainly earned her name, has a forever home with her new mom Peek-A-Boo.
