Pleasants County Middle School hosted "Stars" Steps of Hope Walk-a-Thon on Thursday to fundraise for one of their own young students suffering from a rare juvenile cancer.

Teacher Mindy Bussey says the whole school really worked as a family and came together on the 12-year-old's behalf.

They raised more than $1,100 dollars in the Walk-a-Thon.

Every donation helps.

“These four students were chosen to participate from Pleasants County Middle School,” Bussey says. “They've organized and helped get today ready. Our guest of honor, James Burgess, a sixth-grade student here at Pleasants County Middle School that has a rare juvenile cancer was able to be with us today to start the walk for us.”

Bussey says it’s a real honor to be able to work with these kids and James.

Besides the Walk-a-Thon, previously the school had a penny race and several shaved their heads to help offset James' insurmountable medical costs.
