The bitter cold winter is thankfully behind us.

Now Blennerhassett Island looks ahead to a nice new summer season, but not before some clean up.

Park Superintendent Matt Baker says just getting the island ready is a pretty big job in itself.

Even though they winterized a lot of the buildings they had to deal with broken pipes and cleaning up fallen tree limbs from the snow.

"As well as we put a lot of our facilities away - signposts, guardrails, picnic tables, all that kind of stuff gets put up to higher ground in the off-season so if we have any flooding, it's safe. And then we have to go reinstall that all every spring," he says.

Baker says on April 20th, relax on board the Island Belle sternwheeler for a two-hour Easter lunch river cruise.

The island opens May 1st and we can look forward to Rendezvous on the River May 7th-10th.
