It's been a long time coming for football fans in Ravenswood.

Some major renovations will help kick off a new season.

We're told a new set of home bleachers at Flinn Field will be ready for Friday night's home opener against Wahama.

Crews spent the day putting some finishing touches on the bleachers.

Construction began in July after the community raised more than $100,000 toward the project.

Another $10,000 was donated over the weekend by Columbia Pipeline while the team attended a West Virginia Power baseball game in Charleston.

"They presented us a check at the end of the third inning. It was up on the big screen that was a big deal to the kids and everything. It was neat to be a part of it," says Mick Price, head football coach at Ravenswood. "We're so appreciative of anybody who had done any funding in order for us to accomplish this goal of getting these bleachers in before the first home game."

Ravenswood celebrates 100 years of football this season.

The new bleachers increased capacity to more than 3,000 people, making the stadium eligible to host state playoff games.

This fall in Ravenswood, celebrating a century of football and also kicking-off a new era.

Construction is underway on a new set of home bleachers at Flinn Field.

Coach Mick Price says the community raised more than $100-thousand to make construction happen in-time for next month's home-opener. Coach Price says they're still rallying to reach a goal of $150-thousand.

"We still have people that are contributing and making those donations and its not like we have a bunch of sugar daddies here where they're going to come in and just pay for the whole things. This is done by individuals, families, former alumni, they have done it," said Price.

Visitors will move to the opposite sideline where Red Devils fans sat last year.

New bleachers will increase capacity to over three thousand people, making the stadium eligible to host state playoff games.

Two months away from opening kickoff.

One local high school will celebrate 100 years of football with some major renovations.

Last week, Jackson County school officials approved construction of a new set of bleachers at Ravenswood High School.

The new seating will be along the old visitor sideline.

Those bleachers will now be for home fans as that sideline was years ago.

New bleachers will increase capacity to over 3,000, allowing the stadium to host state playoff games.

"We are excited in Ravenswood for this. This is a big deal to our community and our community, the members, alumni, the businesses have done unbelievable in helping the money to make this happen," says Mick Price, head football coach.

Fundraising continues following this month's approval.

Teachers and staff collected loose change from students during the school year.

The home opener is August 29th.

Because it's a fan favorite here at home, it's always a good time to talk football.

The home opener in Ravenswood is August 29, hopefully with some major changes to the football stadium, including new seating for Red Devils fans.

Fundraising efforts are happening to help build a bigger, new set of bleachers along the old visitor sideline.

Those bleachers will now be for home fans.

"The teachers and the staff are putting up signs that if you find loose change they have a bucket in the lobby so you can put it in there," says football player Rhys Jelich. "They're trying to raise I think $250 worth of loose change for each class and I think $1,000 from the staff to help pay for it."

New bleachers would increase capacity to over 3,000, allowing the stadium to host state playoff games.
