Many people were singing the National Anthem to honor the American flag, Veterans and those Vets who are seeking disability benefits.

It's all part of the Say Yes to Vets Day ceremony put on by the Parkersburg AMVETS Post 34.

"It's to commemorate flag day but it's also to bring attention to veterans representation and other issues involving the V-A," says Vets for Full Representation Attorney at Law and President, David Huffman.

West Virginia Deputy Secretary of Veterans Assistance, Billy Wayne Bailey and Parkersburg American Legion Post Chaplain, Michael Sumbstrom, enjoyed being a part of a ceremony to respect a flag that represents freedom and independence.

"Well, I think it's great thing. You know in the Veteran's Assistance Office, we have the flag program which is sponsored by the governor bringing eighth graders in public school well aware of the proper display flag, proper disposal of the flag," added Bailey.

"We need to do something to support our disabled you know and this is really something we need to fight for because getting their claims in are having a lot of problems," replied Sumbstrom.

People in attendance listened to several speakers about what the American flag meant to them.

"It has a long history and it stands for bravery, it stands for honor, it stands for courage, it stands for the American way of life," said Congressman David McKinley Constituent Representative, Robert Villers.

"In America, we're so diverse in our different beliefs and our different political views. The flag is what we rally around, that is our symbol of our union," says Bailey.

A great time for everyone to make a sacrifice supporting our veterans and respecting a recognizable American symbol.

Representatives for U.S Senator Joe Manchin, Congressman David McKinley and Senator David Nohe were among the guests attending the Say Yes to Vets Day.
