Severe Weather Awareness Week

We've been thinking snow and ice lately, but it won't be long before thunderstorms and tornadoes will be on our minds.

This is Severe Weather Awareness Week, and while that can mean snowstorms like the one we missed Wednesday, it also can mean storms like last summer's "derecho".

And, depending on the conditions, they can strike at this time of the year as much as they can in the summer.

"Weather radios, smartphones that have apps on them so you can get weather alerts on them," suggests Ed Hupp of the Wood County Office of Emergency Services. "And all the media is aware of the weather and receives all this information too."

Even with Wednesday's wintry weather, several Ohio counties took part in a tornado drill, which included testing of tornado sirens in those counties.
