Shrinking Salt Supplies

Spring is nowhere in sight and neither are the salt supplies. But there's an abundance of winter weather.

Mike Reynolds, owner of Reynolds Landscape, says we haven't seen weather like this in 10 years.

To get an eight inch snow here is very unusual, and the combination of the ice and freezing and thawing is slamming the salt supply.

"Trying to keep enough salt in supply to keep everybody's parking lots clear," he says. "Typically there's a supplier out of Columbus that we buy our salt from. This year that's not really been the case. This year it's just been buy salt from whoever has it in stock."

Reynolds says they've already gone through 500,000 pounds of salt.

That's three times more than they would usually have in stock for a normal winter.
