An elderly man missing from Fayette County has been found.
Officials say William Barton was found in a barn in the Palestine area and appears to be ok.
Police say Barton was found by members of the Wirt County Fire Department search team.
At about 9 o'clock Sunday morning Wirt County Sheriff's deputies and West Virginia State police responded to a call of an abandoned car. The car was reportedly deserted on Garfield Road in Palestine. When officers arrived on scene, the car was on and idling.
The license plate check came back to an entry of a missing person from Fayette County. According to reports, William R. Barton suffers from dementia and was reported missing by his family on Sept. 14.
Residents in the area reported seeing the car stopped in the road around 1:00 o'clock Sunday morning, but didn't report it to police.
Right now police think Barton abandoned his car sometime overnight and started walking along the car. The car was facing west toward the Jackson County line, but no evidence shows which way Barton was walking.
K9 units from WV State Police and Parkersburg Police Department assisted in the search, along with members of the Wirt County Volunteer Fire Department. Wood County Sheriff’s Department aviation unit also responded to assist in the search from the air with the use of a FLIR device.
