SISTERSVILLE, W.Va. (AP) - Sistersville's city charter still contains language prohibiting women from voting.

New Mayor Ann Doig says one of the first things she wants to work on is changing the charter, although it would be expensive.

Doig says the city's charter has what she calls "some silly stuff." But she says the city's attorney told the council that the city can't go against the Constitution.

City Council appointed Doig on Monday to replace David Fox, who resigned mid-way through his fourth term.

Doig says Fox resigned to move to Wheeling to be closer to his wife's place of employment.

She says she'll serve as mayor until municipal elections are held in March.
