Pet owners from across the valley have a reason to celebrate with their four-legged friends.

The Mid-Ohio Valley Paws held the grand opening of a new dog park in Vienna.

"The dog park has the large fence, it has two dugouts, we have a water fountain, it's over an acre of grass. It's very very nice, it's flat, there's some shade for the dogs and hopefully eventually, we will be getting some trees along with some benches," says Mid-Ohio Valley Paws Director, Miranda Haught.

Volunteers say the dog park which used to be a baseball field opened last October.

It's a place for dogs to have fun in a very large open space.

"I think it's a great place for people to in the community to bring their pets so they can run around, especially if they don't have a yard of their own," added Carrie Rapp.

"It's great opportunity to take the dog outside let him run around for a little bit, make some new friends and get some good weather today so I can't beat it," replied Corey Dibenedettl.

It's a convenient location for dogs and their owners.

"The city basically has it intertwined with an area that's already used by the community and children are here, it's a place for families, it's somewhere that definitely that isn't a destination park, it's somewhere that's got other things around it," Haught said.

A doggie dash two mile fun run, pet pageant and a scavenger hunt were all part of the grand opening.

"For all of us, we just have such a love and passion for the animals. I think it just mean the world to us to see our dogs running around and being able to with friends or family and be able to hang out here because you can't necessarily take them to the mall," says Haught.

The Mid-Ohio Valley Paws are currently taking donations to purchase other items for the dog park.
