Helpful hands across the valley laced up their shoes Saturday morning.

The Good Samaritan Clinic hosted the Catherine Carol Ralsten "Mayday" 5K Run and Walk Fundraiser at City Park.

Over 250 walkers and runners came out to help support the clinic's effort to raise money.

The event helps to keep the doors open and offer free health care for the low-income uninsured in the valley.

Volunteers say this is the largest turnout in the races six years.

"I think that it's important for them to know that there's someone to help that don't have private insurance or medicare, medicaid that they have a chronic illness or an acute illness that there's someone out there that's going to help them to get the medications they they need to manage that symptom or disease process," says Good Samaritan Clinic Nurse Practitioner, Barbara Lott.

Jocelyne Majoy of Parkersburg was one of the top finishers in the Mayday 5K Run and Walk.

She took first place in the women runner's category.
