U.S. Senator Joe Manchin Opposes Military Strikes on Syria

Late last week, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin announced he would not support a resolution authorizing military strikes on Syria.

Instead, the senator says the U.S. should consider diplomatic options and join with other countries to control the use and spread of chemical weapons.

Manchin says, "The Russians have reached out; they have accepted this type of proposal, to bring Syria into the chemical weapons convention, that starts not only identifying, securing and eliminating these weapons. Let's try diplomacy...45 days to get him to sign and be part of the 21st century, and start disposing of these horrific weapons."

Manchin says that if the resolution does not get congressional approval, he does not believe President Obama will go ahead with a military attack.
