Using Your Smart Phone to Prepare for Emergency

Turning your smart phone into a life saving tool.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency along with ReadyOhio launch the "Resolve to be Ready in 2013" campaign.

It's all in response to tornadoes, summer and winter storms and super storm Sandy, that left many parts of the country, picking up the pieces.

ReadyOhio says this past year shows just how important it is to be prepared for anything.

They give some advice on how to make the most out of your phone like knowing how to send out updates via text or Internet to loved ones if voice communication isn't available.

Other Tips Include:

-Learn how to send updates via text and Internet from your cell phone to your contacts and social channels in case voice communications are not available.
-Store important documents such as personal and financial records in the cloud, in a secure and remote area, or on a flash or jump drive that you can keep readily available so they can be accessed from anywhere.
-Create an Emergency Information Document
