Want to learn more about the history behind Veterans Day?

The Veterans Museum in Parkersburg will be holding a Veterans Day open house on Monday.

The museum will kick off the event with a Veterans Day cookout on Sunday afternoon at Veterans Park on Route 31 at 12:30.

It will have free food and live music from the Bluegrass Band.

The open house at the museum will take place from 9am to 5pm.

At the Veterans Museum, it can be a learning tool for those who had loved ones in our nation's wars.

"We honor them here at the museum with these displays and stories about veterans. But on Memorial Day, Veterans Day and Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day, we try to do something special for our veterans," says Director and CEO Gary Farris.

A parade honoring the holiday will be held from Parkersburg High School to City Park on Monday at 10am.
