Part of their job is responsibly carrying deadly force.

This is the time of year when every deputy in Washington County must qualify to do that.

It's a huge responsibility.

Monday we got the chance to see how they train.

A very important renewal for the deputies required by the state.

Every year each deputy has to pass the test with each gun they carry.

They have to have minimum hits in the light gray area of the target - the preferred area to pass.

With law enforcement that gun is not only a tool for the job, but a way to protect themselves and the community

With anyone that carries a gun, deputies say they should practice shooting at least once a month.

It is a big topic of discussion lately, especially with school shootings.

Law enforcement learning even more that they have to be on top of their game.
