The start of a new year.

Time to look back on 2013 and look ahead to 2014, including things accomplished and what needs to be worked on to help better Washington County.

Washington County Sheriff Larry Mincks, Marietta Police Captain Jeff Waite and the county commissioners say there are many things that they are proud of from 2013.

Building towards what's next, though is on the mind of all, as this new year brings many new things.

Commissioner Ron Feathers talks about all the new plants going up in the area, bringing jobs and money into the economy.

Meanwhile, law enforcement continues to fight the drug war with meth and heroin, as well as prescription drugs, which are a huge problem here in the Mid-Ohio Valley.

Theft numbers were high in 2013, as people try and support those drug habits.

Captain Waite says they have a full staff for the first time in a while - a great start to the new year with more patrol out on the roads.

New equipment is coming as well for sheriff's office to keep them safe, especially in situations like we saw in the stand-off a couple weeks ago.

Officials say say there are good things to come, making Washington County and Marietta a better place.
