UPDATE: 4/14/2012 10:27 PM

West Virginia State Police held a press conference Saturday evening on the rescue of a missing girl, and arrest of her alleged kidnapper.

8 year old Porshia Atwell was found a little after 5:00 Saturday evening. She is safe and will return to her family.

WVSP said in a press conference that Porshia was in a state of shock and seemed weak from only eating a few candy bars and drinking some water. She was taken to a hospital for medical evaluation.

Tracey Atwell, her father and alleged kidnapper, is now in police custody.

State Police say he placed a phone call to CPS earlier Saturday and they were able to trace that call.

Police made contact with Tracey who said he would take Porshia back to his parents house. Instead, he went in a different direction. He even covered up his car with branches so police wouldn't find him during helicopter searches.

However, police were able to eventually locate Tracey and Porshia near the intersection of Nubbins Ridge Road and Egeria Road in Spanishburg.

Atwell is charged with Murder, Armed Robbery, Kidnapping, Concealment of a child, and Grand Larceny. He was arraigned on all charges except the murder charge. He's being held at Southern Regional Jail.

UPDATE: 4/13/2012

CAMP CREEK, W.Va. (AP) - State Police are still searching for a southern West Virginia man accused of killing his wife and abducting his daughter.

Trooper A.P. Christian said Friday that authorities believe Tracey Lee Atwell is still in the state. Police won't say what leads them to believe that because it could hinder their investigation. They also note he could be in neighboring Virginia within minutes.

Authorities issued an Amber Alert Thursday evening for 8-year-old Porshia Atwell. Her father is wanted on murder, kidnapping and robbery charges.

Media outlets say Atwell is accused of tying up his parents and taking his daughter from their home in Camp Creek. The parents have custody.

Police found the body of Atwell's wife, 33-year-old Christina Marie Atwell, at his home.

Police say Atwell is considered armed and dangerous.

Officials with the WVSP say they are looking for Tracy Atwell, a 49 year-old, white male. He is described as 6"2' tall and 180 pounds. Police say he is a possible homicide suspect and may be armed with a 357 Magnum.

Atwell is believed to be driving a white Jeep Cherokee with the WV license plate number 6C3202.

Police believe his 8 year old daughter, Porshia Atwell, is with him. Porshia is 4 feet tall, weighing 75 pounds.

Praise God this little one has not only been found, but she is unharmed and safe. Well, physically unharmed anyways. I think the introduction of the amber alerts by text message are a Gods send. For someone like me that doesn't read the paper, watch the news, or listen to the radio other than word of mouth I wouldn't have even known about this little girl. Or any others. Whoever thought of it deserves a medal!

If this man is as evil as you all say his daughter would be dead too. You dont know the whole story of what has happened to this family. I can promise you with the way the courts and police treat fathers in this country Im surprised this does not happen more. No matter what you think of him or what he did it could have been worse. I do not support what he has done, but try to understand what happened to have a horrible situation like this happen so it does not happen agian. And I will still pray for all of them, theres to much hate in the world for me to add more.

First off I would like to thank WTAP for putting this story out front. When I read the parkersburg newspaper this morning there was nothing on the front page at all about this child missing. You would think That a AMBER alert for a child missing along with who is suppose to be a murder would make front page along with her picture and his. But it did not it was on a side column.Just goes to show what is news worthy in parkersburg and apparently a child missing is not.

May God be with you and your ignorance and I hope and Pray nothing like this ever happens to you, then I am certain you would be asking for God's help then wouldn't you? It was a Prayer and a wish for God's protection.

If you can not pray for the sinner too, pretending to be religious. God forgives those who want to be forgiving.

With Mercer County being at the southern tip of WV I think they should make this a national Amber Alert as he probably has crossed state lines. Gob be with the child and found safe and sound.
