What To Do with the Old Belpre BOE Building?

The former Belpre B.O.E building has been on the market since 2009, but no one has shown interest in the property.

Now the Board must decide what to do with the space. It's only 8/10 of an acre and appraised at $175,000 with the building on it.

But here's the problem. It's appraised at only $10,000 less without the building.

And some have spoken up. They think it might sell if the building goes.

"There are always people on both sides of the fence, if you will, and the majority of people who have responded to our Board Members and some of our community members do not have an affection for that building and they just want the School Board to do the best thing with it so they don't mind if we tear it down. Again there are people who will fall off on the other side of the fence and have memories wrapped up in the building and they would say please don't tear it down let's preserve it."

Superintendent Tony Dunn says the School Board would prefer it be of civic use to the community although they would sell if a commercial buyer showed interest.

belpre destroys all things good. if they would have kept historical buidlings, etc over the years, they could have had grants like marietta. however, people running the city NEVER learn!

Why not turn it into a historical building and dedicate it as a monument to all those who wisely voted against the school levies! Even after stating time after time, we dont want increased taxes, they voted them down. The citizens of Belpre know how to say no!! Just say NO!!!

Many older schools and older BOE's in other areas are interiorly remodeled as apartments. For the most part, it's a sturdy structure with plent of parking.

Who is going to pay for the upkeep or for the repairs to the building if something major happens to it? Seems like the school system needs their money for other things instead of holding onto a building that isn't being used. I say tear it down and try to sell the lot. You probably would have more luck selling an empty lot than a lot with an old building on it.

Or how about do something for the kids!!Turn it into a youth center. For Once in Belpre have something for the kids.Should'nt cost much more then the move of the Administration Building.LET'S DO THIS FOR THE KIDS THIS TIME!!!!

Tear it down and some of the other eye sores. Then try and get some new businesses to build on the lots.
